Avast is one of the top antivirus programs for 2023 due to a high malware detection rate, low prices, and a vast array of extra features. The free plans provide top-quality security and the premium plan provides a Rescue Disk, a secure browser and data breach monitoring the ability to use a VPN and tools for system optimization. I would like to see parental controls as well as an encrypted password manager.
Avast’s full scan is unlike most of its competitors in that it scans your computer for not only malware and viruses but also for out-of date software, network problems and suspicious activity. It is able to do this because it gathers information from your devices and sends it to Avast’s servers. While this may not be an issue for all users but some may find the privacy breach to be unacceptably.
The suite also includes the ability to scan Wi-Fi and a network mapping tool that can show you where all your devices are. Privacy tools shield your data from the prying eyes of others. Additionally, there is an encrypted password manager as well as an add-on to your browser that warns about potentially dangerous websites.
The interface for avast is very easy to use and comes with brief descriptions of all the essential tools. This makes it easier to understand the functions each tool performs. I also like the fact that each tool has an easy-to-find shortcut to its more advanced settings, making it super easy to find the exact setting you’re searching for. Another feature that is great is the ability to schedule smart scans.
